Heather Black, APN

Heather obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with minors in Biology and Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 2006. She then went on to study nursing at Radford University in southwest Virginia, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2009. She began her nursing career in the Vascular Intensive Care Unit in Roanoke, Virginia. In 2011, she returned to her home state of New Jersey and worked for two years in the Emergency Department at Ocean Medical Center (Brick, NJ). She then transferred to Jersey Shore University Medical Center (Neptune, NJ) and began working in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. In 2015, Heather began her Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Rutgers University, while continuing to work full-time as a registered nurse. She transferred after three years to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and, in November of 2016, she joined the nursing leadership team and helped launch the Neuro-Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, gaining priceless experience in the field of neurology. Graduating in May, 2019, Heather joined the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and passed the national Family Nurse Practitioner board exam. In October, 2019, she joined Neurology Center for Epilepsy & Seizures as a doctorally-prepared and nationally-certified Advanced Practice Nurse with aspirations to work alongside Dr. Amor Mehta in providing compassionate and competent care for patients of all ages.
